Ultimate Beach Vacation Packing List and Planner

Parents (and Nannies) once you’ve printed off your list and packed the up kiddos, let’s hit the road for a good old fashioned road trip. Get out this summer and explore some of our favorite,
drivable destinations from our east coast Birch Nannies locations.

Atlanta:

Serenbe ,Georgia

Here in our very own backyard ,only an hour’s drive from Atlanta, you’ll find the quaint town of Serenbe where you can hike, horseback ride, tour a farm, and eat until your heart’s content (good thing you got your hiking steps in). Kids will love the connection with nature when the skip rocks in streams and climb trees.. When you’re ready to hit the hay lay your head at The Inn at Serenbe

Amelia Island, Florida

Located just 5 hours away from Atlanta lies a tranquil piece of paradise filled with sand dunes, fly fishing and sea turtles. Both the Omni and Ritz Carlton resorts have amazing properties that sit directly on the ocean  (with phenomenal kids clubs) as well as endless VRBO possibilities. While you’re here, take a stroll through the historic town of Fernandina Beach, a well-preserved historic 19th century seaport named in honor of Spain's King Ferdinand VII with a very intriguing past.

Washington DC:

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

Just a hop, skip and a jump from downtown D.C. sits this historic picturesque town. Families who enjoy nature, adventure and history alike will love this little gem. Small ones will enjoy the toy train museum, the many tree filled trails and the vintage candy shop. Your adventurous older children will be entertained by John Brown wax museum, ghost tours and a whitewater river adventure down the Potomac or Shenandoh. Spend the night pitching a tent under the starts or in The Light Horse Inn, a 225 year old historic bed and breakfast retreat.

Cambridge, Maryland

Just a quick 2 hour drive from D.C. you’ll arrive on the shores of the beautiful Chesapeake Bay. The very family friendly Hyatt Regency Resort is the perfect little getaway. Your little fish can swim both inside and out, take a stroll on a fantastically unique seashell path, or test their skills at mini golf. If you’d like to encourage some educational fun then the Harriet Tubman Museum will be just the place to ignite the light bulbs in their imaginations.

 Greenwich:

 Kent, Connecticut

If your family’s immediate dream is to just slow down, take a deep breath, and get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city then head to this rural escape located in Litchfield Country. One of the three remaining covered bridges in the entire state, named Bull’s Bridge is located here. Kids will enjoy hiking Kent Falls State Park, visiting the Connecticut Antique Machinery, and then finishing off the day by stopping in for a treat at Kent Coffee & Chocolate Company.

Mystic, Connecticut

An easy two hour drive from Greenwich, you’ll find this adorable seaside port town built over 135 years ago. Mystic is a great two or three day getaway. Your little marine biologists will love visiting the beluga whales, penguins and sea lions at the famed Mystic Aquarium. The next day your family can tour the Mystic Seaport Museum, the nation’s leading maritime museum to soak in about America’s longstanding relationship with the sea. Ready to refuel after all the exploring? Parents will appreciate a stop at Mystic Pizza!
