Storytime in a public setting can help your child with emerging language and early

literacy skills. They get to know sounds, words and concepts such as colors, numbers,

letters and shapes all in a fun and engaging way.

It’s an opportunity for them to learn about people and the world around them. Creating a

great foundation for social emotional intelligence. Storytime can help children build a

sense of connection, belonging and empathy as well as create a deeper connection

between you and your child through this shared experience.

It’s wonderful for their brain development because it allows for the opportunity to learn

how to focus, communicate and listen without any pressure. The librarian and

caregivers all know that this is a learning curve environment and there are no

expectations for your child to sit still or quiet.

One of the most beneficial aspects is that it’s a perfect opportunity to socialize for you

and your child/ren! Socializing with other children helps your child develop their

self-esteem and become more resilient towards the unknown. Allowing kids to

communicate with others outside of their immediate family helps them understand social

cues and how to listen and understand others to make social interactions less scary for

them. It encourages them to engage with others and learn how to share.

Public story time is also a wonderful opportunity for parents, caregivers and children to

create lasting friendships and share resources.
